This was to be the year of the comeback at the box office, but the adage was more hype than fact. There were many smaller, independent films that were more entertaining than the ones making our final list, yet, they could not crack onto the ballot. Instead, we have a good number of films that do not deserve end of year recognition and one must suspect their themes and promotion of a skewed social justice motif somehow justified their appearance here. Let’s hope for a true box office resurgence and much better films in 2025.
Ooooooookay. If you’re talking about box office, we just had two movies make more than $400 million, and they’re still playing in theaters, plus Deadpool/Wolverine, and then last year, there was Barbie and Super Mario Bros. You can say whatever you want about the quality of the movies but the box office for these movies shows that audiences are back in theaters and that they love these movies enough to see them two, three, four or more times. Quality will always be subjective, but box office is pretty well reported.
I did my homework and viewed every nominated film. I’m completely satisfied with my votes and will be on the radio this Sunday on Out Chicago talking about it! Stream it online here:https://heartlandsignal.com/programs/out-chicago/
But there’s no “language” in it. There are no words in it. It’s likely going to win as Animated Feature.” No reason to stretch it into a different — and in my opinion, wrong — category.
Happy new year everyone. I was disappointed to see Better Man only showing up in one category – and I agree with the original poster on this thread. Not so many choices and more hype than fact.
But very happy with my choices – and may Timmy win.
Totally agree and giggled at Josh Board’s comment about best costume for Conclave. Did they go to Pope Party City?
IT’S GOING TO BE AN EXCITING SHOW TO COMMEMORATE OUR 30TH ANNIVERSARY! CONGRATULATIONS TO THE CCA BOARD DIRECTORS & ENTIRE MEMBERSHIP FOR MAKING US RELEVANT THRU THE YEARS IN THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY!
Glad to have the privilege to vote again, now for my 3rd year. I was sad to see many great films this year not even nominated, Such as JUROR #2, THE ROOM NEXT DOOR and DAY OF THE FIGHT, but though I may disagree with some of our nominations, I was proud to select, just now, what I thought were the best from the titles and disciplines that were nominated. See you in Santa Monica.
Best,
Matias
Great year where cinematographers, actors, designers, musicians…everyone push their limits to offer pure art on screen with strong messages, diversity allowing entertainment and reflection to blend beautifully.
Great noms! My only hope is that we get rid of any ties! I think nothing distracts from our legitimacy and professionalism like a tie in an award category. The awkwardness of the winners up there sharing the award is top level cringe. I would be fine with an unknown party of three CCA members having the final tie breaking vote. Or even roll the dice or pull a name out of a hat. Just please get rid of the ties!
Done! I strongly disagree with a particular movie BUT, a great selection. I’m crossing fingers that movie don’t win anything. (I’m going to try mental control of all of you!)
I tried mentally controlling everyone away from OPPENHEIMER last year. May your luck be better than mine! (Although, I do think the mind control kicked in for I’M JUST KEN for OG song. You can give me credit/blame me for that — haha).
I was also trying the mind trick against “Oppenheimer” and was totally pro-Ken. Aren’t we all thankful that “I’m Just Ken” got an Oscar Nom? I even made videos about the Oscar performance.
Thanks for the voting opportunity! We are looking forward to an exciting prize season. I look forward to seeing who our membership will pick as winners.
BTW For those members who remain in Europe, can we hope for a covered link to follow the awards show live?
My hardest decision was for ACTING ENSEMBLE. Truly, there’s a strong argument to be made for all the nominees. I hope that all our members are safe, and looking forward to seeing you in person on Jan. 26.
I did have to evacuate and safe. Thank you.
The voting brought me some comfort and joy from all the films I saw last year.
These fires need to stop!!!! Just hoping for the best for the members/evacuees who were affected by these catastrophic fires.
Finished voting. It is never easy to choose, but this is the roughest year ever in terms of making choices. Such great work this year. And so many worthy nominees. As people have said on this thread, it’s an honour to nominate and to vote. I am looking forward to seeing how this shakes down. But honestly, my heart is with the people of Los Angeles right now.

It’s Latvian.

I wanted to vote for it just for that purpose…the humor of a no language film winning that category! (But, I didn’t:)
