- Joe Leydon has been a film critic for Variety since 1990 and a senior writer for Cowboys & Indians magazine since 2007. He is also a founding member of the Houston Film Critics Society, a critic/blogger at MovingPictureShow.com, and author of Joe Leydon's Guide to Essential Movies You Must See. He has been a panel moderator and Q&A host at the Nashville, Denver, Dallas, Bahamas, and WorldFest/Houston film festivals; a judge for the Slamdance, SXSW, Nashville, and Palm Springs film festivals; and a contributing critic for Leonard Maltin’s Movie Guide. He taught film studies courses at the University of Houston and Houston Community College from 2001 to 2021. From 1982 to 1995, Leydon was a film critic for The Houston Post. More recently, he has reviewed movies for The San Francisco Examiner, MSNBC.com, NBC affiliate KPRC/Channel 2, and CultureMap Houston. He also has written for CNN.com, The New York Daily News, Los Angeles Times, Newsday, The Boston Globe, The Dallas Morning News, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, The (Nashville) Tennessean, Dallas Observer, Houston Press, The Shreveport Times, MovieMaker magazine, and Film Comment.
