- Mario Alegre was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, but he grew up in movie theaters across the island. His love of film started from a very early age and it has accompanied him since. After graduating from Puerto Rico's University of the Sacred Heart in 2005 with a BA in Journalism, Mario immediately started working for Primera Hora, the second highest circulation newspaper on the Caribbean island, and within a year he was writing weekly movie reviews. He became the paper’s chief film critic and remained as such for more than 12 years, covering events like the Toronto International Film Festival, a first for any local publication. In 2011 he started hosting a weekly movie segment on WMEG 106.9 La Mega (SBS Entertainment) on the number one show on national FM radio, “Los Reyes de la Punta”, where he continues to report on entertainment news and film reviews. In 2017, Mario launched his site, www.proximatanda.com, and started a weekly tv segment on WIPR to discuss the latest new releases.
