- Mary has always loved movies. She wrote her first screenplay about killing her boss. She had so much fun that she kept writing screenplays. When she finished four, she went to L.A. to try to sell one and called Lew Hunter, chairman of the screenwriting department at UCLA. He suggested she come to his Graduate 434 class to network on the first night of class. She went for a night and stayed for a year. After graduation, she went home. A friend at the local newspaper asked if she would write a movie review. She did and has been writing a weekly column ever since. Several years ago, the paper became part of Hearst Media, and now her columns are available to all 159 Hearst newspapers, and a number of them pick her reviews up weekly. In 2014, she started recording a weekly program at WBGZ radio called Cinema Chatter.
