- Biography:
- MICHAEL MEDVED hosts a daily talk radio show and podcast that combines politics and pop culture, history and values. He is also a New York Times best-selling author of 13 nonfiction books--most recently THE AMERICAN MIRACLE: DIVINE PROVIDENCE IN THE RISE OF THE REPUBLIC. An honors graduate of Yale, he also attended Yale Law School and has worked as both a political speechwriter and Hollywood screenwriter. He's been married to Dr. Diane Medved, clinical psychologist and best-selling author, for 34 years; they are the parents of three grown children and grandparents of the two most remarkable little girls on God's Green Earth. When launching my career as a book writer during a leave of absence from Yale Law School, I came up with the idea for a project that would offer a goofy riposte to Bosley Crowther's 1971 bestseller "The Great Films," which amounted to his tribute to the greatest achievements in cinema history. My concept, "The Fifty Worst Films of All Time", became possible only with the collaboration of my brilliant kid brother Harrry (15 at the time) who knew far more about awful B movies than I did and agreed to do all the grunt work of actually viewing and researching the candidates for our derision. The resulting tome became a surprise success and, in best Hollywood tradition, spawned an instant, even more successful sequel, "The Golden Turkey Awards: Nominees and Winners for the Worst Achievements in Hollywood History." While promoting that book (relentlessly) on the newly launched network CNN in 1980, a producer asked me to come back and review movies every week. The CNN gig lasted nearly three years, followed by a season on British TV (Channel 4), and my role as co-host of Sneak Previews (PBS) for 12 years, and chief film critic for the New York Post. Since 1996, I've been reviewing new films every week as part of my nationally syndicated radio show (three hours every day). I've also continued writing books (the 14th comes out in November), mostly on US history and social criticism; seven of those books have turned up on bestseller lists. The new release, GOD'S HAND ON AMERICA, will be published by Crown Forum/Random House in November, 2019.
