BROADCAST TELEVISION JOURNALISTS ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES THE CRITICS’ CHOICE TELEVISION AWARDS WINNERS
Olive Kitteridge is Most Awarded Program and HBO is the Most Honored Network
May 31, 2015 (Los Angeles, CA) – The Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA) tonight announced the winners of the Critics’ Choice Television Awards. Eighteen of the best series in television were honored at the Beverly Hilton Hotel at a star-studded gala awards show, which was broadcast live on A&E. Cat Deeley (So You Think You Can Dance) hosted, while Kevin Frazier (ET) and Samantha Harris (ET, Dancing With the Stars) hosted the red carpet preshow.
HBO was the most awarded network with seven wins, followed by FX with four wins. Olive Kitteridge (HBO) was most honored program with three wins. For the fourth year in a row,Archer (FX) was honored as Best Animated Series. For the second year in a row, Allison Janney was awarded Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Mom(CBS); and Shark Tank (ABC) received the Best Reality Series award.
The Americans (FX) won Best Drama Series, while Silicon Valley (HBO) won Best Comedy Series. Bob Odenkirk and Jeffrey Tambor were awarded Best Actor in a Drama Series forBetter Call Saul (AMC) and Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Transparent (Amazon), respectively. Taraji P. Henson was honored as Best Actress in a Drama Series for Empire(FOX), while Amy Schumer won Best Actress in a Comedy Series for Inside Amy Schumer(Comedy Central). Jonathan Banks was awarded Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Better Call Saul (AMC); T.J. Miller was awarded Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Silicon Valley (HBO); and Lorraine Toussaint was named Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Orange Is the New Black (Neflix). Sam Elliott was named Best Guest Performer in a Drama Series for his role in Justified (FX), and Bradley Whitford was named Best Guest Performer in a Comedy Series for his role in Transparent (Amazon).
Bessie (HBO) won Best Movie Made for Television. Olive Kitteridge (HBO) won Best Limited Series, and its stars Frances McDormand and Bill Murray were honored as Best Actress and Best Supporting Actor in a Movie or Limited Series, respectively. David Oyelowo was honored as Best Actor in a Movie or Limited Series for his role in Nightingale (HBO), and Sarah Paulson was honored as Best Supporting Actress in a Movie or Limited Series for her role in American Horror Story: Freak Show (FX).
Face Off (Syfy) took home the award for Best Reality Competition Series, and the Critics’ Choice Television Awards’ own host Cat Deeley was awarded Best Reality Show Host for So You Think You Can Dance (FOX). The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Comedy Central) won for Best Talk Show for the third time.
BTJA honored Seth MacFarlane with the Critics’ Choice LOUIS XIII Genius Award for demonstrating unprecedented excellence in the television arts. Charlize Theron presented the award to the CCTA and two-time Emmy Award winner.
In addition, American Crime Story (FX), Aquarius (NBC), Blindspot (NBC), Minority Report(FOX), The Muppets (ABC), Scream Queens (FOX), Supergirl (CBS), and UnREAL (Lifetime) were honored as Most Exciting New Series.
Presenters included Scott Bakula (NCIS: New Orleans), Chris Colfer (Glee), Tracee Ellis Ross (black-ish), Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory), Angie Harmon (Rizzoli & Isles), Josh Holloway (Colony), Gillian Jacobs (Community), Allison Janney and Anna Faris (Mom), Jake Johnson and Max Greenfield (New Girl), Michael Mando (Better Call Saul), Ben McKenzie (Gotham), Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story: Freak Show), Bill Paxton and Olivier Martinez (Texas Rising), Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul), Chelsea Peretti and Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Matt Walsh and Tim Simons (Veep) and Constance Zimmer and Shiri Appleby (unReal).
The Critics’ Choice Television Awards honored programs and performances that aired between June 1, 2014 and May 31, 2015, except for the Most Exciting New Series category, which are shows premiering after May 1, 2015.
